Is Jerusalem Babylon in Revelation

The biblical facts are very clear – Jerusalem is Babylon. However, let me remind you of what the scriptures say.

1 Corinthians 2:14: "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."1 Corinthians 15:44-47: "It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven."

The Israel of God was sown a natural body, an earthly kingdom, the Israel of the Old Testament, but the Israel of God in the New Testament is a spiritual body. The earthly natural city was Jerusalem from below, but the heavenly city that is now is from above and the mother of us all, read Gal.

Galatians 4:22-28: "For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise."

There is no question that Jerusalem is Babylon, it is easy to see the scriptural backing for this.

Evaluating Current Preterist and Historicist Proofs

Here is Kenneth Gentry’s proof that Jerusalem is Babylon:

The problem with Ken Gentry and Chris White, is they don’t understand spiritual things, they have the natural assessment right, but not the spiritual assessment. This is where those who study and are smart and those who are spiritual and have eyes, are separated.

Why Natural Jerusalem Fails the End-Time Babylon Criteria

Jesus clearly told the natural Jewish people that their kingdom was left unto them desolate, 2000 years ago, Luke 13:35. Jerusalem, according to Isa. 1:21 had become a harlot and was guilty of the blood of all the Saints up to that point, Matt. 23:35. Since the natural Jewish kingdom had become desolate and according to Gal. 4, it is in bondage with her children and compared to Agar, then the Woman riding the beast in Rev. 17, whom John looked on with great admiration, cannot be the natural land.

Since the natural Jerusalem was desolate and later destroyed, how can it be the literal city that reigns over the kings of the earth?

The Missing Prophetic Qualifications of Literal Jerusalem

Prophetic Requirement for Babylon

Does Natural Jerusalem Qualify?

Historical & Economic Reality

Reigns over the kings of the earth

No

It has never politically dominated global empires over the last 2,000 years.

Holds the world's primary wealth

No

Destruction of the physical city today would not collapse global trade or the economy.

Captor of the New Testament Church

No

End-time Saints were never held in physical captivity by literal Jerusalem.

Guilty of 2,000 years of Christian blood

No

Christians over the past two millennia have not been globally martyred by the literal city.

It makes absolutely no sense at all that God would tell the endtime Saints to come out of the natural Jerusalem, because they were NEVER held in captivity by it and Christians over the past 2000 years have not been killed by it either, so why would God hold a people guilty for all the blood of the Saints that was spilled over the last 2000 years when they didn’t do it, God is not unjust so that is simply impossible!

The Spiritual Temple and the Rise of the Apostasy

Here is what needs to be understood, you read the scriptures, just for the sake of time I am going to quote scriptures that you know exist and explain this phenomenon to you and hopefully open your eyes to the truth. Just as the natural Jerusalem had a temple in it, so has the spiritual temple in Gal. 4.

When Jesus conquered by his death on the cross he gave authority to his disciples – what you loose or bind on earth shall be loosed or bound in heaven – if you shall say to this mountain be plucked up and cast into the sea, it shall obey you – if two or three of you agree as touching anything it shall be done – what you ask you shall receive – and it is also said that Jesus Christ must reign until his enemies become his footstool – ALL power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

The city in Gal. 4 is that city that, since the death of Christ has reigned over the kings of this earth. God’s people are his temple, just like Paul the Apostle said “when I leave, grievous wolves will come in not sparing the flock”, just like the temple of old was destroyed, so has the apostasy over the past 2000 years, destroyed the temple of the Lord. Now after 2000 years, the sins of this new Jerusalem have come to it’s fulness, just as Isa. 1:21 says “how has the faithful city become a harlot?”

What came out of the apostasy of the spiritual Jews, who dwelt in a spiritual Jerusalem from above, about 300 years after Christ the Roman Catholic Church was established as the testimony of Christ on earth. The mistake that people make, these really smart and well studied types, they don’t believe that any corruption or evil thing could enter into their spiritual land. Jerusalem from above is this mythical place where only good and light can prevail, not compared to the Jerusalem of old, this is flawed and scripturaly unsound. I would leave you with this:

Prophetic Scriptures for Deeper Reflection

Isaiah 14:4-16: "That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!... How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God..."Daniel 12:1: "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time..."Revelation 12:7-10: "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon... And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world..."Revelation 20:1-4: "And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon... and bound him a thousand years..."
