Is the Bible the Word of God?
I am going to say a little about this today, “Is the Bible the Word of God?”, and what people really mean when they say this or when they say the opposite. If you want a better article with more scriptures, I suggest that you read “The Word of God is a Person”. It is really simple, the Word of God is a Person, because the scriptures written, say exactly that in John 1:1. I guess there are many which would like to re-write the scriptures so they say “In the beginning was the bible and the bible was God”, but that is not what is written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is it? So what is it that makes people demand that you claim, “The Bible is the Word of God, even though the Bible it’s self says otherwise?”
I know what most people think when I would claim, “No technically, the Bible is NOT the Word of God”; they think I want to write my own scriptures; they also think that I don’t like what the Bible says, so I am just trying to undermine it’s authority. NOTHING COULD BE FARTHER FROM THE TRUTH!
I know that those who teach cessation-ism (the gifts of the Holy Spirit have passed), they claim after the Bible was written there was no more need for prophecy or speaking in tongues, because the Bible says “When that which is perfect is come then that which is done in part will pass away.” (1Cor. 13:10) So in fact the Baptist or cessationist, are actually saying technically speaking, that the Bible is God and is worthy of being worshiped. That my friend is a real strange form of idolatry, don’t you think? Only God is perfect, that’s why it’s so important that he is the Word of God from the beginning. Don’t get it yet?
I heard another man make the statement, “This is the Word of God, you either receive it or not, because I am not going to debate it with you!” He was taken back when I wrote him and said, “I am not interested in debating you about whether the Word of God is true, I am only interested in questioning the way you read the scriptures and understand the Word of God.” This man was making a typical error, an error many people make, where their understanding of the Word of God is elevated to a level of infallibility, so really at the end of the day they become God and their understanding irreproachable. For by grace are you saved, not of works lest any man boast, truth is given by God and truth is hidden by God, no one receives truth just because they can read their bible. (Pro 25:2) It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Here’s what I believe people are really saying in their heart when they insist you confess the unbiblical confession that “the Bible is the Word of God”.
They are saying that they can read and understand the scriptures, and therefore know the difference between right and wrong and be saved. They are eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
They are denying the power of God. They don’t really believe that God can conceal his truth from them, they study to get approved, rather than to show that they already are approved, like Timothy, Paul’s son in the Lord.
They love to control others with their prideful head knowledge, they boast themselves in knowing Greek and Hebrew and pride themselves great at the debate table, their so called knowledge puffs them up. (1Cor. 8:1)
(Luk 11:52) Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
Because the key to true knowledge, knowledge of God, is the fear of God. These people do not fear God, they fear men. (Pro 2:3-6) Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Finally brothers, sisters, if a man extols the value of study, your hard efforts, if a man demands that you confess “The Bible is the Word of God”, if a man is proud of his training in Greek and Hebrew, he is a fool and knows nothing! READ IT: If you cry after knowledge, if you lift up your voice for understanding and seek her as silver and gold, THEN YOU SHALL UNDERSTAND THE FEAR OF THE LORD AND ONLY AFTER THAT SHALL YOU FIND KNOWLEDGE!
(Isa 28:13) But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
That’s why we have no perfect English Bible translation, because God never desired you to worship the letter, but to seek him who inspired it!
